What We Do

Vandal Scratches : Small Accidental Damage : Plastic Welding : Dents : Alloy Wheels : Bumper Scuffs

Vandal Scratches

It is all too common for people to come back to their car to find scratches caused maliciously by vandals or bicycle handlebars and such like, from a single panel to all around the car. Thankfully this type of damage is relatively straightforward to put right for a skilled painter, though it can be time consuming.
The basic process involves sanding out the damaged paint, priming and repainting into the surrounding area painting as much as is necessary for a permanent quality repair.

Small Accident Damage

At ChipsAway Reading we specialise in the repair of all damage that can be repaired in one to three days. We don’t just deal with scrapes and scratches, we can replace bolt on front wings and bumpers and remove all sizes of dents that don’t require the welding in of new panels. This covers the majority of cars brought to us for advice and quotes so if in doubt, give us a call.

Plastic Welding

You would probably be surprised how well plastic bumpers with splits and dents can be repaired. Splits can be repaired by plastic welding and dents can be removed by heating and stretching the plastic back into position. The cost saving is quite substantial over replacing the bumper and is less wasteful too.

Dents

Small dents without paint damage such as those caused by another car’s door being opened onto your car’s can usually be removed by stretching the metal back into position using special tools. This method is called P.D.R which stands for Paintless Dent Removal – the removal of dents without needing to spray the panel. It is a real skill that has the advantages of being quicker and cheaper than other methods of dent removal (for larger dents or those with paint damage requiring painting, please see “Small Accident Damage”).

Alloy Wheels

Scraping an Alloy Wheel against a kerb is very annoying but can be repaired in most cases within a day at a cost that is much cheaper than replacing the alloy or handing the car back to a leasing company to face their charges. We repair the whole front face of the wheel, removing all scratches and scrapes. (Does not include split-rims, diamond cut or polished aluminium wheels which require specialist repair).

Bumper Scuffs

The most common damage on cars needing cosmetic repair. Bumper scuffs are often the most unsightly damage on cars, as the four corners take the brunt of parking damage. They are usually easier to repair than damage on the side of the car however as curvy areas are easier to paint. Bumper scratches are often deeper than scratches on other areas of the car and may need more reshaping to recreate the original line.
